Struck from 92.5% silver to proof standard, the coin features frosted relief set against mirror-like fields, creating strong visual contrast and exceptional presentation quality.

Design & Craftsmanship

The reverse design features a swagman, inspired by the imagery and storytelling associated with Waltzing Matilda, together with the denomination positioned to the left of the design.

Issued to commemorate the centenary of the writing and first public performance of Waltzing Matilda, the coin reflects the enduring cultural significance of Banjo Paterson’s famous Australian ballad.

The obverse features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, consistent with mid-1990s Royal Australian Mint releases.

Struck to proof standard, the coin displays frosted design elements contrasted against mirror-like polished fields, enhancing the detail and visual depth of the design. The coin also features interrupted edge milling, adding a distinctive finishing touch to the commemorative issue.

The proof silver one dollar series produced by the Royal Australian Mint became especially popular among collectors due to the enhanced appearance of commemorative designs when struck in sterling silver proof format.
